He earned his medical degree from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee, graduating with Honors, and completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Alabama at Birmingham with University Honors in Chemistry, concentrating in Biochemistry with minors in Mathematics and Biology.
